CITIZEN SCIENCE ON KALK IN WEEK 39:
EXAMINE NOSE CALCIFICATION AND TAKE PART IN THE RESEARCH
In this course, upper-grade students will learn more about how, which, and why we can find traces of animals that lived 63 million years ago right in the middle of Faxe. We’ll take a closer look at a particularly well-preserved portion of the fossils from Næsekalken. We’ll follow in the geologist’s footsteps and use their methods as we learn about the subsurface and examine, identify, and sort the limestone and fossils. The course covers biology, geography, and chemistry/physics and serves as an example of the interdisciplinary challenges geologists often face.
The program lasts 2 hours and is designed for upper elementary school students. It is a free, nationwide program. Only one class at a time is allowed inside the museum. The program is offered every weekday during Week 39.
