The cliff holds the story of, how an asteroid about 66 million years ago, an asteroid struck Earth and caused a massive natural disaster. It is estimated that half of the animal life died and many species species disappeared. Practical Info

If you have any further questions, you are welcome to contact us by email geomuseum@oesm.dk, or phone (+45) 56 50 28 06 on weekdays from 9-12.

Stevns Klint is a living piece of nature. Cliff slides and crashes can occur all year round.

It can therefore be dangerous to walk both along the cliff edge and on the beach below the cliff.

Fossil collecting is allowed throughout Stevns Klint. Just follow some simple rules to ensure that the cliff will always be a beautiful and inviting place to visit for generations to come.

It is forbidden to peck at the cliff itself, but there are always plenty of fallen boulders on the beach to examine.

Don't dart in Fiskeleret - there must also be something to see for those who come next.

The cliff in Højerup is particularly vulnerable, which is why you are not allowed to use a hammer and chisel there. However, you are allowed to pick up anything loose on the beach.

If you think you've found something interesting or rare, you can contact the museum and have experts take a look at it.

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on our guided fossil hunts.

We will cancel if it is deemed dangerous to enter the quarry due to weather conditions - including lightning and thunderstorms.
We go fossil hunting every weekend and public holiday from Saturday 28 March 2024 to Sunday 20 October 2024. During the summer and autumn holidays there are tours every day.

Drive directly to the cliff along cozy country roads on Stevns.

The area and parking are owned by Selskabet Højeruplund.

The address is:
Højerup Bygade 39
4660 Store Heddinge

From Køge St., take the cozy local train heading towards Rødvig.

From here you have two options: Get off at St. Heddinge St. and take the bus to Højerup (see Rejseplanen for details). Or why not go to Rødvig, rent a bike and cover the last few kilometers on two wheels?

We reserve the right to refuse guests on guided tours who do not participate in the safety instructions, do not follow staff instructions or are a danger to themselves or others. The same applies to guests who are visibly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Paid tickets are non-refundable in case of expulsion from tours.
