Museum hosts bring history alive at Geomuseum Faxe

Fossil sorting, microscopes and knots like the old lime workers used to make them - there are many new activities to get involved in at the museum. Education Manager Pil Mørch shows the future museum hosts what the indoor activities can do. Photo: Østsjællands Museum.

The story of the coral reefs of the past in Faxe Limestone Quarry will become even more vivid in the future when Geomuseum Faxe's skilled guides become museum hosts.

For several years, Geomuseum Faxe's skilled guides on the popular fossil hunts have told the amazing story of the coral reef that later became Faxe Limestone Quarry. 63 years ago, the reef was teeming with life, which is why the quarry is now teeming with fossils.

In the future, the guides will also take on the role of museum hosts, manning the museum exhibitions on weekends, holidays and vacations. The goal is to make the museum experience even more vibrant for visitors.

- Geomuseum Faxe wants to create curiosity and experiences for both young and old visitors, which is why we will focus even more on personal communication, play and activities at the museum itself," says Kasper Renström Østervig, director of Østsjællands Museum, which Geomuseum Faxe belongs to.

The future museum hosts have been undergoing rigorous training at the museum so they are ready to help with activities and answer questions during Easter and beyond.

Geomuseum Faxe is open every day from 10:00 to 15:00. Children have free admission.
