New family tour: Experience Stevnsfort on the children's terms

Want to see a cannon, taste an emergency ration and take out an enemy ship? Then join the new family tour in the underground Cold War museum Stevnsfort. The tours begin in the fall holidays and convey Cold War history at children's height.

Take the family underground for a unique museum experience at Stevnsfort. The new family tour of the underground fortress is designed on children's terms, with room for questions and a focus on activities. So bring the kids along and experience the wings of history - and the roar of the sea, which you can feel as you move around the algae-green corridors 18 meters underground, which in addition to telling Cold War history is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- I've been looking forward to presenting family tours. Children have of course always been welcome at Stevnsfort, but on the family tours, the guide tells the story at eye level and with activities that translate to children and give the family a shared experience. In this way, we want to make history come alive for a new generation of visitors," says Kasper Renström Østervig, director of Østsjællands Museum, which runs Stevnsfort.

A new way to experience Stevnsfort

The underground Cold War museum is the most visited of East Zealand Museum's locations. Stevnsfort was on the front line monitoring enemy shipping during the Cold War, and this unique part of history attracts many visitors who want to hear in detail about the secrets of the fort and the guns, missiles and radars that can be seen on the open terrain.

- We are very pleased with the many visitors to Stevnsfort and the interest in the detailed history that we continue to tell on our other tours. The family tours are shorter and with a greater focus on activities, and of course we hope that more of our older guests will seize the opportunity to bring their grandchildren on the new tour," says Director Kasper Renström Østervig.

The family tour begins at a large cannon from which soldiers could threaten and shoot enemy ships. The guide explains the soldiers' task at the fort, and the families then go underground and see maps showing the division of the world during the Cold War. The tour then continues through the long underground passages past the exit to the sea, the crew room and the operations room. Along the way, you can taste emergency rations and solve tasks with codes.

The family tour is recommended for children aged 6-12, but everyone is welcome. Read more and buy tickets for an experience for the whole family here.
