Mads Damsbo will become the new director of Østsjællands Museer, bringing solid museum and management experience to the position.
An experienced museum director will take the helm at Østsjællands Museer in January.
Mads Damsbo previously served as Director of Christiansborg Palace, which is part of the National Museum of Denmark and later the Royal Collection, as well as Director of the Kunsthal Spritten Foundation, the Brandts Art Museum, and Kunsthallen Gl. Holtegaard.
“I am very pleased that Østsjællands Museer has been able to reach an agreement with such a prominent figure. We were specifically looking for someone with a solid background in museum work who also has strong leadership skills and can set a course to realize the potential of our local museums,” says Martin Steen Andersen, acting chairman of the board of Østsjællands Museer.
In fact, it was a unanimous hiring committee that nominated 49-year-old Mads Damsbo as a candidate for the museum’s board of directors, which made the decision to hire him.
– The East Zealand Museums’ areas of focus on the Cold War and our natural history could hardly be more timely. I’m very much looking forward to starting at the museum and, together with the museum staff, developing programs and experiences that will hopefully generate local engagement and attract tourists and visitors from outside the area. I’d very much like to do both in partnership with businesses and the region’s other cultural attractions. There’s great potential here, and I’m looking forward to getting started,” says Mads Damsbo.
Mads Damsbo will take up the position of director of the East Zealand Museums on January 15.
