During winter break weeks 7 and 8, the Stevnsfort Cold War Museum will open its doors to both adults and children who want to experience Cold War history up close, 18 meters underground.

The underground fortress Stevnsfort was once a secret bunker used by the Danish military. Today, visitors can explore the fortress on guided tours designed both for adults who want to learn about its military history and for children who want to discover its secrets in a fun and educational way.
– We look forward to welcoming you underground during winter break, and have decided to offer tours specifically for adults who want to delve into history, as well as for families with children who can explore the fort on the children’s terms, with a focus on activities. Last year, we offered a family tour for the first time, and it was a huge success, so we’re looking forward to sharing the history with even more families with children,” says Kasper Renström Østervig, director of the East Zealand Museum, which oversees the Stevnsfort Cold War Museum.
Secrets of the Fort
The guided tour “Secrets of the Fort” is designed for adults, and the tour of the underground fort provides insight into Stevnsfort’s role during the Cold War. The guide will discuss the military operations and the extensive preparedness measures that were kept secret from the outside world for many years. It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the fort’s strategic importance, see the original facilities, and understand how the fort was a key component of Denmark’s defense.

MissionStevnsfort – A Tour for Families with Children
For its youngest visitors, Stevnsfort offers the exciting and interactive tour “Mission Stevnsfort.” Here, children gain insight into the fort’s history and significance, explore the underground passages, and visit selected rooms within the fort. At the same time, they’ll learn about the exciting tasks carried out by the soldiers who served at Stevnsfort during the Cold War. Here, the whole family can get a close-up look at the fort’s defense history and work together to decode a message and sample an emergency ration.
Practical Information
Stevnsfort is open during weeks 7 and 8, and you can book tickets and tours online on the fort’s website. We recommend booking tickets well in advance, as space on the guided tours is limited.
Stevnsfort is located near the beautiful Stevns Klint, and with its special winter hours, it offers a great opportunity for both adults and children to spend an educational and entertaining day during winter break.
