New DR Program Kicks Off at Stevns Fort

Stevns Fort plays a leading role as DR delves into the Cold War in “The Hunt for Denmark’s History”—a historical competition filmed, among other places, in the fort’s rugged corridors and operations rooms.

When DR’s new historical entertainment program “The Hunt for Danish History” premieres on Monday, November 3, at 8:00 p.m. on DR1, Stevns Fort will serve as one of the central settings. From there, host Cecilie Nielsen, along with team captains Lise Baastrup and Phillip Faber, will take viewers 18 meters underground and 70 years back in time.

In the show, two teams of well-known Danes compete to solve historical puzzles, complete challenges, and uncover the answers to some of the greatest mysteries of the past.

In the premiere episode, the competition unfolds in locations such as Stevnsfort’s authentic operations room and rugged hallways, where the history of the Cold War can still be felt.

A Living Testimony to the Cold War

Stevns Fort was built in the 1950s as a key component of Denmark’s and NATO’s defense during the Cold War. From here, the Baltic Sea was monitored around the clock, and the fort’s crew stood ready to act should a conflict between East and West break out.

It is precisely this part of the story that will serve as the focal point of the historical competition in “The Hunt for Danish History.”

Today, the underground facility—along with the HAWK missile exhibit—is part of the FORT museum, which bears witness to a time when World War III was never more than 20 minutes away.

FORT will be open on weekends in November—an exception to its usual schedule—during which visitors can join guided tours and experience the history of the Cold War up close.
