A special shared experience
Book a guided group tour at the KALK Museum in Faxe and let your own guide take you on a journey through millions of years—from the ancient ocean to medieval natural science and 900 years of limestone quarrying. An ideal choice for corporate events, family outings, club trips, and school field trips in East Zealand.
DENMARK'S FOSSIL CORAL REEFS – Dive into a 63-million-year-old ancient ocean
In the unique exhibition DENMARK’S FOSSIL CORAL REEFS, we bring to life the 63-million-year-old coral reef that formed the limestone at the Faxe Limestone Quarry. The guide takes you down into the ancient ocean to a world where marine crocodiles, sharks, fish, and nautiluses swam in search of prey, and where crabs, sea urchins, and snails crawled along the bottom of the reef that today lies hidden beneath Faxe. All illustrated with unique fossils straight from the limestone quarry—supplemented by beautiful graphics and animations that bring the ancient ocean to life.
At the activity tables, the group can sort real fossils and examine microfossils under microscopes—a hands-on experience that fosters engagement and a shared sense of wonder.
900 Years of Limestone Quarrying—One of Denmark’s Longest Industrial Histories
Your guide will also tell you the story of more than 900 years of limestone quarrying at Faxe Kalkbrud—one of Denmark’s most remarkable industrial histories, which has left a deep mark on both the landscape and the local community.
