Kulturmuseum Øst is locally rooted and broadens its perspective from there. In our museum building on Rådhusvej in Faxe, we show exhibitions based on local history and connect it to the bigger picture.
Østsjællands Museum offers a wide variety of museum experiences, all of which have authentic settings and great experiences in common. At the underground Cold War museum Stevnsfort, you can walk 18 meters underground and see how the fort served as a NATO outpost and monitored the enemy during the Cold War.
Geomuseum Faxe is located on the edge of Faxe Limestone Quarry, which 63 million years ago was the world's largest cold-water coral reef. On our guided fossil hunts you can find shark teeth, corals and much more, and you can take your finds home or display them at the museum where you can learn more about fossils and the past. Kulturmuseum Øst is a local cultural history museum for Faxe and Stevns. Kulturmuseum Øst will close in 2025, but it is possible to book tours of the storehouse and get selected stories about the local historical objects told by the curator.
